SO HERE'S THE DILEMMA...

It was brought to my attention yesterday, that one of my staff is going online, viewing nudie pictures and going to the bathroom to polish his sausage. This is no joke. I was told he's doing it about two to three times, daily. I'm in a dilemma because I really don't know if I want to fire him. He's a good worker, not the best, but he's efficient enough. I've never had any problems with him at all and the clients like him.

I've already made plans to have the internet blocked from their computers, so you'd think that would solve the problem. I would have just left it at that, but being that a staff told me about this and he's the type that snitches on every little thing that goes on- I have to take the punitive route. I honestly don't think he's crazy or weird for his actions. Shit, if I could, I would....OK, I have.

It's heavy on my mind and I can't get to sleep because of it. Professionally, I'm going to have to let him go, but personally, I just think he's a human being, who just likes to get off as often as he can. This sucks. I have to leave in about seven hours for a conference, so it will have to wait until I get back.

Of course the blabber mouth will have told the entire staff by the time I get back, then they'll be looking at me, waiting to see how I handle it. If I just get the internet off the computers, they'll think I'm not firm. If I let him go, I'll have to find another person to fill his position, which will take months because it's hard to find someone who will work that hard for such low pay.

Is there anyway I can punish him severe enough to keep my staff in check and not fire him?!

Written reprimand, block the internet and put him on 90 days probation. Unless you 1) Have a written policy against explicit sites careful about instant termination you are setting yourself for a lawsuit for wrongful termination 2) Unless you have a paper trail for a case (other infractions) and you have told him about the nudies um see number 1.

I concure with that guy. And if your staff has anything to say about it, put them on probabtion too!

Yeah, write him up, and probation... What concerns me is the snitch, who seems to be kissing your ass! How do you feel about him and his antics? And shouldn't he be doing his own work instead of snooping and running to you? He seems to be the real long term problem here. Such people really screw up employee morale.

Bottom line, this guy is a hard worker... get rid of the net, and keep him there... hopefully he will shape up.

My question is how does this snitch know what this guy is doing? Is he participating as well? Is he peeping in on the guy in the john? Sounds like you've got bigger problems with the snitcher than the self-lover!

But, just to put in the rest of my two-cents: I think that New Agenda is correct IF this guy is actually guilty. You can't reprimand someone on hearsay. (Can you?)

Conversation and reprimand seem like a reasonable course of action to me. The guy will probably be embarrassed and wait until before/after work to free his mind.

    Good luck!

I had to fire a guy for almost the exact same thing. The dude I fired didn't go jack off (as far as I know). I had to fire my person because I was told to. You, however, can do as you see fit.

How doesn't the snitch know he's beating his meat? Fuckin' killjoy pervert!

Reading your entry, it doesn't look like he's even been warned yet.The solution is tell him one-on-one not to go to those sites on the work computer. Establish written workplace internet usage guidelines and pass them out to everyone at a staff meeting. After that, if he keeps doing it, he's gotta go.

Wondering if the thought of others in the office knowing what he's doing will turn him off or turn him ON? All the aformentioned advice sounds great. Let us know what YOU are led (by force or heart-strings) to do.

By the way, hello out there! I'm off for the summer and am visiting my online friends. Closes thing I'm going to get to a "vacation-from-it-all." Sad. I know.

Reprimand I think is the way to go.

Looking at the nudies and beating his meat in the bathroom are BOTH lewd and lascivious behaviors. Of course, you expect more than that from your subordinates. This might be hearsay coming from an office snitch. I hate to say it, but you might have to catch him in the act (i.e. do an audit on his computer activity to see just where he's been in cyberspace). If the snitch proves to be true, then you can go ahead and let his ass go. You're running a legitimate business, NOT some internet porn shop. Under no circumstances tolerate this behavior from him because then if it isn't "checked", his shenanigans could spill over into sexual harrassment of a co-worker and then you'd be facing lawsuits.

Or worse yet, he could be venturing into looking at child pornography sites and that WILL GET ALL YALL IN TROUBLE. Don't lose your job because some mofo can't keep his eyes off the tits and ass on the internet, and can't keep his hands outta his pants.

Obviously dude is some sexual pervert. And thats fine if he wanna use HIS OWN COMPUTER AT HOME TO LOOK AT NAKED ASSESS, but NOT ON THE JOB. IT'S REALLY KINDA CREEPY...

    Hey CC...

So you did the office midday *wank* too huh? Lol.

But it all properness.... yes I can see, how you "pull-out" dude.
    Pun intended.

We all have midday urges, but dang 2-3 times a day. Just think how more affective he would of been, if he was choking the monkey.
    Dang.

    Easy,

UPDATE! I met with him before I left and informed him that I was aware. He admitted to it, so I suspended him from work for one week without pay and when he returns he'll be placed on six months probation.

As for the snitch. He's always been a problem. I put him in his place in a passive agressive way.

Thanks for the advice, people. I really had no idea what I was going to do.

There must be a way of dealing with this...does company policy allow for warnings, therapy, internvention...something??? LOL High stress job.
