I'M ON MY SOAPBOX
Sorry readers, I couldn't help but post my two cents about this person's POST.
A prime example of what happens when people take the media for face value.
I have to get on my soapbox....Your thoughts have obviously stemmed from what you're viewing in the media.
Most of the time, when absorbing media, you must read in between the lines, get underneath the surface.
True there was looting by both Blacks and Poor Whites. The majority of the looting was for food, water and medicine.
The footage of Blacks stealing appliances was ONE clip that they continuously ran. So few Blacks AND Poor Whites stole appliances...They don't represent the majority. The media didn't cover a group of 120 victims who set up camp in front of a Walgreens that was protected by police, only because the police force were looting it for themselves. That's not considered news worthy.
Or the members of the New Orleans Black Business Owners Association that decided not to leave, rented airboats and were one of the first on the scene, rescuing people BLACKS AND WHITES from their rooftops and attics. That's not news worthy.
The events that followed after this traumatic catastrophe are typical. There were rapes, looting and even murders that occurred after the Tsunami. But the media won't expose that because it's a "third world paradise" where the people are humble and innocent.
Switch gears to New Orleans which is the poorest city in the U.S., where the majority is comprised of unemployed Blacks and poor whites....What image do you think the media wants to portray?
You fell for the bait.

I agree with you Chubby Chocolate. The majority of the "looters" were/are searching for food, water, medicine, etc. And some of the people who were stealing appliances, Tv's, radios, and such were using them to barter with.
Its not all "We Are The World" down there like everyone thinks. People are hungry and desperate, they are not sure of what their next move is or where their next meal is coming from. You'd be surprised what you would do if you were in their shoes. Survival mode is different from everyday living.
We shouldn't judge. People need to get off their high horse talking about once a thief always a thief...bullshit. It's called change and growth.

I think if the government or anyone else was concerned about the supposed "looting" then they would have made sure that the people who couldn't afford to get out of the area were given help. This person OBVIOUSLY didn't watch the same channels as me, with poor mothers and fathers holding babies that were WEEKS old in their arms...with no water, no formula, no diapers...fuck ya I'd be LOOTING TOO!
And I'm WHITE...it isnt a "racial" thing, its a "SURVIVAL" thing...wake up and smell the fuckin coffee!
Unfortunatly..the "thug quality" exsists in ALL walks of life, all races all events..black, white, hispanic. There will always be those that have lower morals and do as they please...but the majority of people were just in fear for their lives, and that of their kids lives. When put into a situation like that I'm sure most of us would do things we had never thought of in the name of "survival". So KUDOS to those people strong enough to survive though the crap that our government let them sit and wallow in for FIVE DAYS. And shame on this person, who was probably sitting somewhere in their noce home, on their computer...with power and running water writing her little post.
Maybe SHE is the one that has let her black people down.
